Owning or managing a business or nonprofit requires creativity and intuition. Ask yourself, "Have I developed a vision for my organization that will keep it relevant, growing, generating income, and competitive?" To help position your company for long-term success, you need to think strategically.

The Harvard Ed Portal is pleased to offer Allston-Brighton and Cambridge residents, business owners, and entrepreneurs this valuable four-part virtual workshop series. Discover how to add value by thinking big, challenging your assumptions, and identifying threats and opportunities.

This course will help you:

  • Spot trends in and out of your organization

  • Break down any biases and assumptions that prevent you from identifying new possibilities

  • Practice seeing opportunities and threats before they happen

*This program is for those who reside in Allston-Brighton and Cambridge or own a small business that is located in Allston-Brighton or Cambridge, as well as Gardner Pilot Academy parents/guardians. Space is limited to 25 participants. Women, Minority, and Veteran Owned Businesses are encouraged to register.


About this Course:
This course combines flexible online learning using ManageMentor from Harvard Business Publishing, the publishers of the renowned Harvard Business Review, and virtual workshops with Areen Shahbari, faculty member at Harvard University Extension School and Harvard Professional Development Programs. Your remote workshops with Areen will provide opportunities to discuss the concepts of the online course as well as ask specific questions you have about your business. You'll also receive additional resources including articles from the Harvard Business Review; worksheets; podcasts; and videos. Plus, Allston-Brighton and Cambridge residents and small businesses who complete the course will be eligible for one-on-one business coaching with Areen.

Requirements:
Participants must complete the necessary ManageMentor coursework prior to each class to be admitted. The weekly homework time commitment is approximately 20-30 minutes. If a participant misses more than one class, they will be dropped from the program.

About Areen Shahbari:
Areen Shahbari is a Fulbright alumna, a business consultant, the founder and CEO of Cactus International, a faculty member at Harvard University Extension School and Harvard Professional Development Programs, and an entrepreneurship instructor at Stanford University Continuing Studies and Babson Executive Education. Before moving to Silicon Valley, Shahbari held a Lecturer position at Simmons University School of Business in Boston. Shahbari’s training and consultancy focus on entrepreneurship, innovation, strategy, marketing, effective communication, and leadership. Her research focuses on the intersection of business and psychology.
