The Harvard Ed Portal is proud to present segments of Prakriti Dance’s upcoming production Through Fish Eyes, which utilizes the dynamic classical Indian dance form Bharata Natyam to create awareness about dwindling marine ecosystems.Following the performance, audience members are invited to participate in a reflection facilitated by Shari Tishman of the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Project Zero research center.
Creators and Performers:
Kasi Aysola is the Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director of Prakriti Dance. He is a Bharata Natyam dancer, choreographer, and nattuvanar who trained under Viji Prakash for over ten years. He has toured extensively in the US and abroad performing solo and group works. He is a composite artist who brings together a deep understanding of multiple Indian arts.
Ramya Kapadia is the Assistant Artistic Director of Prakriti Dance and the Director of the Natyarpana School of Dance and Music. She is a South Indian classical vocalist and a Bharata Natyam dancer/choreographer. Ramya has written, composed, and scored music for several dance-theater productions nationally and internationally.
Madhvi Venkatesh is the Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director of Prakriti Dance and a Curriculum Fellow/Lecturer at Harvard Medical School. She has performed across the US and India as a soloist and member of reputed dance companies. Her academic work focuses on science education, both through conventional and arts-based methods.
Reflection Facilitator:
Shari Tishman is a Senior Research Associate at Project Zero, a research center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she also serves as a lecturer on education. Her work focuses on the development of thinking and understanding, the role of close observation in learning, and learning in and through the arts.
