Strategic Thinking for Small Businesses (Registration Deadline)

Date:

Monday, October 18, 2021 (All day)

Location:

Online via Zoom

Owning or managing a business or nonprofit during COVID-19 has required creativity and intuition. None of us could have planned for this—and no one ever wants to hear the word "pivot" again. Despite COVID, ask yourself, "Have I developed a vision for my organization that will keep it relevant, growing, generating income, and competitive?" To help position your company for long-term success, you need to think strategically.

The Harvard Ed Portal is pleased to offer Allston-Brighton and Cambridge residents, business owners, and entrepreneurs this valuable four-part virtual workshop that meets once a week. Discover how to add value by thinking big, challenging your assumptions, and identifying threats and opportunities.

Virtual Meeting Dates: October 20 & 27, November 3 & 10, 5:30pm-6:45pm
Registrants are required to attend all four sessions. This program is for Harvard Ed Portal members, Allston-Brighton and Cambridge residents and business owners, and Gardner Pilot Academy parents/guardians only.

Registration Deadline: October 18

This course combines flexible online learning using ManageMentor from Harvard Business Publishing, the publishers of the renowned Harvard Business Review, and virtual workshops with Areen Shahbari, faculty member at Harvard University Extension School and Harvard Professional Development Programs. You'll also receive additional resources including articles from the Harvard Business Review; worksheets; podcasts; and videos. Plus, Allston-Brighton and Cambridge residents and small businesses are eligible for one-on-one business coaching with Areen and a 4-month scholarship to LinkedIn Learning.

The ManageMentor Strategic Thinking course will help you:

  • Spot trends in and out of your organization

  • Break down any biases and assumptions that prevent you from identifying new possibilities

  • Practice seeing opportunities and threats before they happen

Your remote workshops with Areen will provide opportunities to discuss the concepts of the online course as well as ask specific questions you have about your business.

Participants must complete the necessary ManageMentor coursework prior to each class to be admitted. The weekly time commitment is approximately 45-60 minutes. If a participant misses more than one class, they will be dropped from the program.

* Space is limited to 25 participants. Women, Minority, and Veteran Owned Businesses are encouraged to register.
