Creating A Positive First Impression: The Cover Letter

Now that you’ve prepared a résumé, what else can you do to create a positive impression with the hiring manager?

In this workshop you will learn how to write a customized cover letter that will enhance your résumé and influence a recruiter to put you forward for an interview.

Topics include the importance of research, how to connect the elements of the role with your skills and experience, using your network to learn about contacts within the company, highlighting two of your main achievements, four key points to express your interest in the job, personalizing and formatting the cover letter, maintaining a record of correspondence, the added value you will bring to the company, and how to draft your own one-page cover letter template.

Pre-requisite: Individuals who have prepared a résumé that the cover letter will accompany.
