Are you looking for a free, fun way to keep your child or teen engaged with their peers while learning about the arts?

The Harvard Ed Portal, in partnership with the American Repertory Theater, is sponsoring scholarships for Allston-Brighton youth to participate in the A.R.T.'s Kids Company virtual fall programs!

Students aged 5-13 who live or go to school in Allston-Brighton are eligible and encouraged to apply. No prior theater experience is needed. Weekly online classes are offered for ages 5-7, 8-10 and 11-13 years old every Saturday from October 17 – December 12 (excluding November 28).

Apply Online by September 25

Designed and led by teaching artists from the American Repertory Theater, each week will feature a mix of storytelling, movement, performance, and crafting activities meant to introduce theater skills, and awareness of the actor’s toolkit: body, mind, voice, and imagination. Instructors will teach in real time via Zoom and each class includes craft project supply kits with how-to videos for tactile, self-paced learning off-screen.

  1. Kids Company, Jr. (ages 5-7) will explore the story of Jack and the Beanstalk with interactive story drama and craft projects.
  2. Kids Company (ages 8-10) will develop a Zoom play based on Jack and the Beanstalk!
  3. Young Company (ages 11-13) will engage with themes of power and responsibility to create an original play!

Cost: The scholarship covers the full cost of registration and materials for the series, and is open to all eligible candidates regardless of income. The application process is simple and takes about 5 minutes.

Please note: Access to internet and a video-enabled device for Zoom are required, however, the Ed Portal can assist with access to technology if needed. Recipients must commit to attending all eight classes.

Harvard invites individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and abilities to be part of our community. BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA people are strongly encouraged to apply.
