3rd–5th Grade Virtual Field Trip Program

Allston-Brighton students in grades 3-5 are invited to join virtual field trips to locations across the globe. Students will be encouraged to explore, think creatively, and expand their understanding of the world we live in.

The program will be led by Harvard undergraduates who will lead students on a guided virtual experience designed to grow a greater curiosity for learning.

Please note: To join this program your student must have access to a device that can support video streaming.

May 18: Constellation Creation
Come explore how to use your imagination to create art and stories about life outside Earth! Using the Stellarium Web, students will explore stars and constellations visible from their geographic coordinates and think of ways of how to apply their creativity to what they observe!

May 19: Dinosaur Discovery & Design
Travel back to pre-historic times with us on this virtual field trip! Students will learn about fossils and dinosaurs by exploring websites and participating in fun games. Students will also be able to demonstrate what they learned by designing their own dinosaur! We hope you can make it!

May 26: Spelunking Underground
Come explore spooky caves and bats with us on an exciting virtual field trip! We will be visiting Carlsbad Cavern, learning about echolocation and different types of bats, and discovering how stalactites and stalagmites form. We’ll finish this exploration with a fun Jeopardy game covering the material. You don’t want to miss this trip underground!

June 2: A Volanic Blast!
Learn about volcanoes in this explosive virtual field trip! We will be learning how volcanoes form as well as their characteristics through a virtual tour of the volcanoes in Hawaii and a guided exploration of volcano anatomy. We will also play a game that involves the history of volcanoes and the scientific theories behind them. You’ll lava volcanoes by the end of this lesson!

June 8: Creative Collaboration Challenge!
Students will work together to create virtual drawings in response to fun prompts. Join us to get your creative juices flowing in this race against the clock!

June 9: Finding Nemo's Home!
Where does Nemo live? Join us in exploring the world of coral reefs underwater through a tour of the Dry Tortugas National Park in Florida and a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California! We will be learning about the coral reef ecosystem through interactive games and fun activities.
