The second annual Allston-Brighton Winter Market returns to the Harvard Ed Portal December 6-9, 2018! Boston’s newest neighborhood holiday market, the Allston-Brighton Winter Market is a four-day event featuring vendors of crafts, artisan goods, gifts, and fine art, plus live music, food and drinks for purchase, a beer garden, and special interactive art opportunities. Hosted by the Harvard Ed Portal (224 Western Ave, Allston, MA), the Allston-Brighton Winter Market will be a festive celebration of local creative entrepreneurship. Free and open to the public, we encourage visitors to return throughout the weekend to take in all that the market has to offer. Our first year in 2017, the Allston-Brighton Winter Market saw nearly 4,000 people through the Harvard Ed Portal doors, and we look forward to welcoming even more people in 2018 to enjoy our fresh cohort of local artisan vendors, more live programming, food, music, and an updated beer garden.

What were the sales totals from the 2017 Allston-Brighton Winter Market?
A: The Allston-Brighton Winter Market production team evaluates each application carefully and tries to assemble a mix of vendors that spotlights local creators and a wide variety of high-quality goods. There are many factors that go into determining who is accepted to the market, and we encourage vendors of all levels of experience (including those who have not yet sold at a market!) to apply.
A: Yes, the Allston-Brighton Winter Market does give preference to applications from vendors living and/or working in Allston-Brighton. However, we accept applications from vendors living anywhere in New England. Last year, just over 60% of our vendors lived and/or worked in Allston-Brighton.
A: 20-25 vendors will be selected.
A: We strive to assemble a diverse group of vendors selling many different kinds of handmade goods at a range of price points. That said, we did notice that last year the majority of items sold were in the $15-40 range.
A: The 2018 Allston-Brighton Winter Market hours are:
Thursday, December, 6: 4:00pm-8:00pm
Friday, December, 7: 10:00am-7:00pm
Saturday, December, 8: 10:00am-7:00pm
Sunday, December, 9: 10:00am-7:00pm
This schedule matches the hours for the ceramics Holiday Show & Sale next door at the Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard, and we’ve found that running the events concurrently helps everybody’s sales!
A: We encourage all vendors to be at the market as much as possible—it helps sales, and it’s fun! That said, vendors are not required to be at the market on Thursday and Friday. If you are unable to attend in person on Thursday and Friday, there will be an option for you to have your items sold through a central register on those days. All vendors ARE required to be at the market in person on Saturday and Sunday, and on those days must handle transactions themselves.
A: Vendors must select a load-in time ahead of the market. The two options for load-in are: Wednesday, December 5, from 5:00-8:00pm OR Thursday, December 6 from 12:00-3:00pm. Load-out for all vendors takes place immediately at the conclusion of the market on Sunday, December 9.
A: We provide basic setup equipment to each vendor. Each vendor may choose ONE setup option from the options below:
Table setup: You will be provided with an eight-foot long table and a chair.
Panel setup (recommended for visual artists working in 2D media): You will be provided with two 7’ tall, 38.5” wide panels on which you can hang your art. You will also get hanging equipment for your artwork and will have access to half of a table for conducting sales. This table will be shared with the artist next to you.
A: In our inaugural year, the market attracted nearly 4,000 people who bought over $30,000 worth of items from participating vendors in just four days—a resounding success!. We can't wait to see what 2018 will bring, and hope you will apply to join us.
